okay, so I gave up on that one pretty quick

This food-blogging thing wasn't really working out. I really don't have the discipline to post every day about what I ate... so no more food posts.

I can feel the disappointment.

MAN do I feel bad for the Jets and the Bills this week. Two disgusting losses - just pitiful to watch games, really. I rooted for my Bills - and I wanted them to win. Too bad that wasn't enough to stop us from having the WORST linemen in the leauge. Ugh.

And I couldn't stay up late enough to watch the Jets get trounced. Hey, at least they didn't have to fight tunnel traffic to get home afterwords, right?

food for Friday and Saturday - and a reaction!

Friday: breakfast was cereal & soymilk
lunch: see below description.
dinner: Jose Tejas - vegetable fajitas with:
  • flour tortillas
  • broccoli
  • mushrooms
  • carrots
  • onions (tried to avoid)
  • salsa
  • spices
  • plus black beans & white rice.

Saturday: breakfast was leftover Ethiopian food (lentils and bread).

Lunch: thin crust pizza at Uno's with spinach, broccoli, and chunk tomatoes. garlic powder & oregano.
snack: leftover pizza. carrots.

dinner: sushi - vegetable roll w/kampyo, avocado & cucumber. asparagus roll. salad w/ginger-carrot dressing. onion soup w/scallions & fried onion bits.
club soda w/lemon

after dinner, I had a small piece of chocolate from Lindt. The same chocolate I've had all week. The SECOND I put this in my mouth I started coughing and wheezing. A benadryl helped but I felt bad all night and again this morning I woke up with the post-nasal drip.

I went and read a bit about allergies, and it appears that they can be stimulated (i.e. the reactions can be made worse) through the introdcution of stimulants, like caffeeine and chocolate. Oops.

Also, the book said that what I may have is "intolerance" instead of allergies - and that means it might not be so obvious as to what's causing it. It could be something I eat every day, like wheat or soy. That would suck.

before I forget

I had something different for lunch today. They ordered pizza for a meeting we had at work, and it had:

crust
spinach
green peppers
onions (I tried to pick off)
chopped garlic
bits of fried eggplant
broccoli
tomatoes
tomato sauce
black olives

I had two slices. They ordered a salad too - but it was covered with cheese so I avoided it. I also had leftover chinese food from yesterday -> tofu skin, mustard green and green bean.

More food

First of all - what I ate yesterday

B: same cereal & soymilk & rasins & oj
snack: green apple
lunch: Subway - veggie patty (I think its a gardenburger) with lettuce, tomatoes, olives, green peppers, cucumbers & red wine vinagreette dressing on the oat-wheat bread (six-inch) followed by half a bag of baked lays potato chips and an orange fanta (wanta fanta- don'tcha wanna?)
snack#2: two peices of chocolate from Lindt - all dark - all yummy
dinner: chinese food at the Panda place - cold noodles w/sesame sauce, tofu skin, mustard green and green bean, and a few of the dried noodles with duck sauce. Also about a handful of roasted salted peanuts.
snack #3 - one vanilla wafer cookie

I tell ya, yesterday was a heavy snacking day. I must not have been satisfied with the meals I did have.

I think I'd like to learn to make gyoza. Vegetable gyoza - mushroom and tofu based, maybe. Mmmm. I think the weirdest thing about posting my food is that I'm doing it after I've eaten breakfast the next day - so it makes me hungry then I realize that I'm full. Very weird.

Allergies

it seems like everyone has them, right? I feel like when certain times of the year come around that my entire office is sneezing and wheezing.

Welll - now I'm convinced I've got them too. Every once in a while I either get a big case of the "wheezes" or a big case of hives. Ugh - itchy.

I don't know what's causing it, so I made an appointment to see an allergist. Someone my doctor reccommended, she's supposed to be a real Sherlock-Holmes. I hope so.

In light of this I'm going to try to document my eating habits on this blog for a week or so. Maybe I can spot the culprit in my food! Also, maybe some of you will finally get the answer to the question, "what does a vegan eat - anyway?". Or you can go and check out this other person's blog here - she's got pictures & stuff.

Yesterday's food:

Breakfast - Kashi "Heart-Healthy" o-s, soymilk, raisins, organic OJ. + Calcium and Folate/B-12 supplements.
Lunch - Indian Buffet; basmati rice, potato & onion dosas, dahl, eggplant & onion, bread, vegetable curry (mostly zuchhini & carrots), lettuce &tomato salad with *brown* dressing.
Dinner - Moe's! Lettuce, Salsa, grilled tofu, kidney beans, cucumbers, and southwest vinagrette dressing over a soft wheat tortilla. + root beer.
Snack - vanilla wafer cookie

countdown to October 17

Okay, this is it. No more funny business - it's time to meet that deadline!

For those of you who were listening, the big yearly deadline for all of my clients is this coming Monday. Which means that the deadline for me to get stuff to them is this Friday, October 14.
I'll be pretty busy basically this whole week, I think. Speaking of which...

Yep. I got interrupted a second ago by the phone ringing. Pretty much describes my whole experience these days.

In other news, Wire and I picked pears this weekend! A WHOLE LOT OF PEARS! Anyone know any good pear recipes? I'm open to suggestions... please use the comment box below to add them.

pictures from Rosh Hashanah

Here's a great picture that my brother took of me and some members of my family. That's OUR HERO on the far left, then me with my niece Amanda on my lap. That's my sister-in-law Lisa next to her (not the fox), my other niece Sarah holding up the bunny ears and my brother-in-law Todd making the great face.

he's sleeping right now

Fred is asleep right now, but he grew up from a squishy baby ball into a pumpkin into a mametchi. Now he's just too cute for words.

This is just too cute not to share it..

One of my vegsource buddies, Keith, took this picture of his newly adopted kitten.

I just had to share. That's me.

Fred

My tamagotchi Sqshy has finally left me, and now I've got Fred. The generations so far are as follows;

1. Poofy - my first boy. He was very cute and liked to play lots of games.
2. Sqshy - my second boy, child of Daisy and Sqshy. He was a very tempermental teenager, hated to play games and got really fat. Then he grew up into a wonderfully adorable adult. The ugly duckling indeed.
3. Fred - my third boy (I sense a pattern here) who was the illigitimate child of Sqshy and some girl that the matchmaker brought. He didn't even know her name. Tsk, tsk Sqshy. I hope Fred can outlive the horror of his parent's lifestyles.

In other news look! I've got a picture on my web page! Yes, folks, that is what a bearded dragon looks like.

Photos

On his last day, our hero helped to finish up a website for the shelter he was working at. If you go to the link below, and click on "Photo Gallery" at the top, you can get to a page of thumbnail pictures of the shelter. Pictures of the damage to Ocean Springs are at the bottom.

Christus Victor

The damage is so incredible. But so are the efforts of the people down there. I never cease to be impressed by the power of people to help each other.
